Paul graduated from Louisiana State University in 1960 with a Bachelor of General Studies Degree, and he subsequently received an LLB Degree from Tulane University. In 1964, he was admitted to practice as an attorney in Massachusetts. He has also received training as a mediator in conflict resolution. He was appointed the first Regional Legal Counsel in the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health, assigned to Region 1 in Western Massachusetts. In the course of his extensive guardianship work he was trial counsel in a landmark case involving substituted judgment in the making of medical decisions on behalf of patients who are unable, due to mental impairment, to make such decisions for themselves. Subsequently, he self-published Guardianship News, a monthly newsletter about significant developments in guardianship law. He has also worked as a university administrator and as a graphic designer.
Sophia graduated from the Technical University of Budapest (Hungary) in 1970 with a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering, and she subsequently received a Masters Degree in City Planning and a Doctor of Science Degree in Population Sciences from Harvard University. She later worked for the United States Embassy in Budapest as Managing Director of the United States-Eastern Hungary Partnership, a program that successfully promoted economic development and trade between the United States and Hungary. She founded and served as the first President of the Hungarian-American Chamber of Commerce of New England. She also has extensive experience in Massachusetts as a business consultant and Realtor.
